What to do about my ex and our apartment?

My ex boyfriend and I were together for a little over 3 years. We have been having problems of a while and I finally broke it off the other night. I am his first girlfriend and only girls he has ever slept with. We have an apartment together and I really dont konw what to do. He won't even accept my break up.. he just says no i can't do that. The night I broke up with him I had gone to hang out with a friend, yes a guy friend and he completely freaked out on me telling me that he has to approve any of my friends and i have to have his permission to hang out with anyone. When i got home that night he was sitting in the dark and when i turned on the light he was looking at me with this crazy look on his face (like he was going to kill me) we started fighting and as i tried to leave he got in my way and wouldnt let me leave then when i tried to push him otu of the way he grabbed a hold of me. My ex is a BIG guy a bout 5'11'; maybe 300lbs and i'm a little girl only about 5'2'; and I have never been afraid of him until this night. I then tried to run into the spare bedroom and he followed and jammed his foot in the door and wouldnt let me close it, then pushed his way in. He did calm down a little at this point but he still wouldnt let me out. He just stood there talking to me about how he was wrong all of a sudden and didnt want me to leave, for about an hour and a half til i got up and went to the bathroom to get away from him and then went to bed in the spare room. the next morning at 7:30 he came in to talk to me again, until i got up and got in the shower. he left to go for a walk or whatever and i packed a bag and headed to work. last night i stayed at my moms house and he called me twice but i didnt answer. he just sent me an IM on facebook saying he misses me. K, now i dont know what to do. I dont really want to move back to my moms since my step dad and i dont get along at all and my little brother has already taken over my room. I would like to have the apartment but i dont know if he will let me have it or if hes going to fight me on it. It is in both of our names and my moms name. we lived there for a year and then resigned a new 12 month lease in feb. the rule book says that to get out of our lease we have to pay a month an a half rent .. so about $900. and that's not something i have. and i dont think either of us could afford to pay it on our own. I dont konw what to do, should i stay and try to find a roommate or just leave, any other suggestions? what do i do to get him to accept that i'm breaking up with him and there's nothing he can do about it? oh yeah, and i'm really afraid of him at this point and dont want ot be around him alone, should i take someone with me? today he's supposed to be at work but i dotn konw if he will go in or call in and i would like to get some stuff, thouhgt about taking a guy friend just in case or should i take a girlfriend when i go, i really dont know...?What to do about my ex and our apartment?
when you go yes take a girl friend and tell him straight up look Mann i am sorry but i am through with OK i am getting my stuff and i am leaving!!! im sure you can handle living with your mom for a little bit till you get your own placeWhat to do about my ex and our apartment?
First, you should not go back to him. He is dangerous.

Talk with the landlord and tell him you are moving out and your boyfriend is staying on

Find another place soon, and stay at your mom;s until you have one. It is safe, if not ideal

Ask for a police escort when you go retrieve your belongings, if that is not available, get a security company to get a security escort accompany to your apartment and make sure your boyfriend does not know where you live.

You may want to take a restraining order on him, he already attempted to hit you and that is enough

I am not sure you can negotiate him to leave the apartment and then you could get a roommate, but, if you do, make sure the locks are changed and the building manager is aware he cannot enter your apartment under any excuse.
